Hi! I'm Tim.
I am going to study psychology at the University of Amsterdam at the end of August. I look forward to study in a place with many international students, experience living abroad and follow my passion. It took me some years to finally get an idea of what I want to do in my life. In my previous bachelor's degree (media & business psychology) it was during my bachelor's thesis (Stigmatization of mental illnesses: Differences between Depression and Burnout) when I discovered that I want to go back and study psychology (for real).
What really made up my mind, was walking on the ways to Santiago [Camino de Santiago; I walked from Le Puy en Velay to Faro; Via Podiensis, Camino Frances/Camino Invierno, Camino de Muxia y Fisterra, Camino Portugues and Camino Alentejo y Ribatejo (south of Lisbon)]. I met so many people from all around the world. During these times of war and conflict, it was beautiful to witness how people from all ages, countries, experiences and reasons (to walk this way) came together.
I am more of an introverted person, that's why I oftentimes need to take some time or space for myself, when I'm in social settings. I think I can be a bit weird or socially awkward at times, it just takes me some time to get comfortable in new surroundings and letting people in. Walking taught me to be more open to people, to adapt to changes and stay more in the present. It led me to find a better connection with my emotions, let me find my genuine smile again, led to more laughter and led me to trust people again. I really want to make new experiences and leave my comfort zone.
I like to spend my time doing sports like: hiking, cycling, kickboxing and also like to try new ones like dancing, climbing and athletics. I am getting a tattoo in June, which I'm really looking forward to! One of the things I definitely want to do is bike-packing and hiking for a few months. I am following two bike-packers that ride from Alaska to Argentina on youtube right now, which is really inspiring (Greg and Ana)! My next goal is to walk the Via Francigena with a tent.
I'm looking for any kind of (student) accomodation, I prefer to live a bit outside of the main city (my limit would be 1.5h by bike, or 20-30 kilometres radius). My budget is between 300-850€. I would be willing to rent even before the semester starts (preferrably starting from June at the earliest).
Starting at the end of April/beginning of May I want to walk again, therefore I might be on the 'road' when we connect on kamernet. Although I definitely prefer to visit you and the room in person, If you feel like a meeting and room tour over Zoom etc. could be an option for you, let's talk about it.
I am looking forward to meeting you!
